Vaneri de Oliveira
Vaneri lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and is a psychologist with a postgraduate degree in Dance and Body Awareness with Psychological Kinesiology (Jungian based). In the early ‘90s Vaneri went on to study Brazilian Dances and ‘Greek Mythology and Peoples’. Vaneri’s professional roles have included: • Teacher and Pedagogical Co-ordinator at the CASA Foundation working with young people in conflict with the law (26 years) • Circle Dance teacher for young people with CASA (14 years) • Choreography for children and adults with Ballet Stagium (10 years) • Pedagogic Professor of Circle Dance and World Dances at FMU - Ministry of Education, Estácio de Sá University in Rio de Janeiro and The University Sao Caetano do Sul, in Sao Paulo. (15 years and ongoing). “When we dance in the circle we also harmonise naturally. If we feel
melancholy we get animated. If we arrive anxious we get back to ‘neutral’. It’s not just your own step, because when the circle gets confused as a whole we then remember the world where ‘I am part of we’. I cannot reach the other without being reached. I can’t change the other without changing myself” In 2004 Vaneri became a managing partner of SemeiaDanca: Circle Dances + Dances of Universal peace with Monica Goberstein and Arlenice Juliani. The team have led many workshops and organised/hosted many others – including several teaching visits to Sao Paolo of Bethan and Stefan Freedman. |
Vaneri writes:
“While dancing people express themselves through gesture, rhythm and movement. At the same time, united by a universal pulse, they may experience immanence and transcendence in the dance. Education currently lacks encounters, experiences and discoveries to highlight these values, essential to our existence. Why not collective dance?” In 1998, seeking to broaden her dance knowledge, Vaneri studied with Monica Goberstein, Renata Ramos and the ‘SemeiaDanca’ school. Vaneri considers this an important point in clarifying her personal vision and style of dance teaching. One in which she could pour all of her resources and develop them further. |
Vaneri’s widely varied and original choreography includes romantic songs, jazz, pop, Celtic and many other genres, all with accessible and well-suited moves.
Bringing together many of Vaneri’s interests, in 2014 she founded Rodancas study centre, giving training courses and organising study trips and research on dance, mythology and culture. Places where she has taken groups include Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Scotland, England, Ireland, France, Armenia, Quatar and Georgia.
Author’s note: I imagine that readers are as amazed and inspired as I am by the positive energy, vision and intrepid character that shines through all of Vaneri’s work!
