Gergana Panova
Gergana Panova heads the Ethnotechnology Department at the Bulgarian Acadamy of Science. She is also a Professor of Dance at Folkwang University in Essen, Germany, specialising in Bulgarian Authentic Folklore Dances. Born in Sofia, she graduated at the Academy of Music and Arts in Plovdiv, Bulgaria and danced as a professional Solo Dancer at the National Ensemble for Folk Songs and Dances “Philip Koutev” in Sofia. Gergana studied dance ethnology in Bulgaria, and completed her Doctorate at the Dortmund University and Humboldt University of Berlin in the areas of Cultural Philosophy, Anthropology and Communications. She has published numerous articles and has written two books on various aspects of Bulgarian traditional dance. By reputation, “Gergana is a joy to learn from, charming, and humorous. The music she has selects is full of passion, joy and energy. The dances she shows are authentic and always beautiful”. Besides organizing annual summer seminars in Bulgaria, Gergana has taught workshops in many countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Israel, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, Argentina and the USA. |
